I think that the US constitution still provides an excellent model for government and we would be absolutely fine if we followed it's original ideas a little bit better. To start with, abolish federal agencies and federal income tax. States control more or less everything except defence. You then decide which state government you like, and it's relatively easy to relocate if you don't like the policies of your governor and state legislature. The problem is that federal government is effectively a monopoly, but giving its functions to 50 states would lead to a little more competition among government. Unfortunately, all the trends in the last 100 years have been to increase federal power at the expense of states rights.

Decentralization, regionalism, localism, and communitarianism. This won’t solve the problem but it will disaggregate demand and supply chain monopolies. We won’t have real freedom until we have Jeffersonian self sufficiency in food, water, housing, and energy.
