You called out every brilliant writer I am following. I am thrilled to have found substack, it is like a whoosh of fresh air of real thoughtful and thought provoking journalism.
Just when I thought journalism was dead, I found a glimmer of hope!
Thank you so much, Toby, for including my new Substack newsletter -- Kids, Covid, and Covid Vaccines -- in your list! Already I've received a bunch of new signups today. I am so happy to be on Substack and to finally have a voice in this debate, after being censored and shadow-banned everywhere else. I am also pleasantly surprised to be finding so many great writers and journalists here, including you, Toby!
"I’m envious of the scholarly accounts that were smart enough to make themselves anonymous from the beginning." The problem with anonymous accounts Toby, no matter how intelligent, entertaining or truthful is that they have no credibility. We need people brave enough to put their reputations on the line in public to truly fight this. I know it's scary and can damage careers but that's what it will take. Doctors/scientists/journalists willing to face the scorn of their peers like you and Alex Berensen have done is what will make an impact. Yes my account is anonymous but my opinions would carry no weight no matter what.
That's a great point. It's just that those of us who are public are hunted. It's wild. I've got Reuters reading my Instagram posts and USA Today reading my FB posts. These people are completely nuts. The purges of brave truth tellers in academia and medicine over the last year are astonishing. One cannot openly tell the truth if employed in a mainstream bourgeois institution these days.
Reuters pulled a censor-then-strawman punch against me a year ago and a few weeks ago for calling out some fictional covid stories. USA Today did it too, each waiting only a few hours after my most recent Twitter suspension. That's okay, I showed the evidence on Substack (uncensored) why they were wrong.
Oh fascinating, they used the same playbook against both of us. Yes, I'm preparing an article with some of my censored posts to get them back out there again.
You're right and I understand how stressful and devastating it must be for you; all of you. That's why we appreciate and admire you all so much. If my voice could make a difference, if I could write and research the way you, Alex and some of the others do, I'd like to think I'd have the guts to stick my neck out. Without guys like you, we would all definitely be screwed. If you weren't fighting we'd all be sticking our arms out for the mark of the devil, like sheep to slaughter. I can't imagine what it must be like to be stalked and maligned the way you all are. In my own little world of Facebook, which I have since backed away from, I've been mocked, scorned, laughed at and told how stupid I must be. I've lost friends since college because I wouldn't get vaccinated. It hurt a lot. And that's on a very small scale compared to what you guys have to endure. So, from the bottom of my heart, THANK YOU for all you're doing. When you feel unappreciated know there are thousands of us out here cheering you on and doing what little we can to have your back.
If you want to see how they go after doctors who are bucking the approved narrative and decreasing potential growth in healthcare revenue, lookup Gary Fettke MD (Australia) and Prof Tim Noakes (South Africa) and of course in the US there's Shawn Baker MD.
Maybe - I'm anonymous - not ready to be purged from my place of influence, have a family to look after for one thing - maybe that's not being brave enough but I'm much more free to speak my mind and spread the word about certain topics that would otherwise terminate me in my career if I were to speak it under my own name. I've moderate influence over 60-80K in my area and can be more effective in a subversive sort of way - subversion for truths sake - than I would be in a completely open manner.
Unfortunately, I don't think the endorsements matter. For the general public, and that's who we have to convince really, someone has to have the name, background, experience, and credibility for them to listen to. If every person with ANY professional credibility at all would speak out maybe we'd stand a chance. If I showed an article written by some anonymous account to my critics I'd be laughed out of the room, no matter how truthful or well written it was. Most people don't even know the basics. They still think they can only get sick if exposed to some unvaccinated person for God's sake. It's been disheartening to see how utterly stupid so many people are.
I dissent. Consciousness determines everything. Here is a story from 2020. A pair of identical twin sisters. Both encountered rowuhan. One chose to take HCQ; the other did not. Guess which one recovered? One went into ICU. What determined their actions? Their consciousness! They had the same choice presented to them,
In an ideal world, it is the opposite: we should not need to know on the names. We focus on the message, not the messengers. That is the reason for a RCT!
Take Frauci: I reflexively skip over any mention of or by him. However, he could, on rare occasions, state truths. For example, early in 2020, he stated the truth re masking, asymptomatic infection, social distancing and vitamin D3 - he takes 7,000 IU daily. Way back earlier he wrote on the "potent anti-viral properties" of HCQ!
Remember, human beings, especially "experts" are very fallible. That is why we need to verify or "triangulate" infor we read. We need to use our intuition.
Re the uninformed. They have an abundant of info literally at their fingertips, if they chose to spend time reading and questioning. For example, a age-care association knew about the Great Barrington Declaration, yet it chose to follow the govt's lines/lies.
I was stunned a few months ago when a pensioner asked me why would govts lie to us! A pensioner!
There is something taking hold of people's mindset - I cannot pinpoint it.
"We need people brave enough to put their reputations on the line in public to truly fight this. I know it's scary and can damage careers but that's what it will take."
Yes, this is all true when it comes to public figures, academics and intellectuals. I agree that more courage is needed.
This does not apply to the likes of you or I though. I had this argument with Tim Pool of all people. He was saying on Twitter that if no-one was anonymous, then the standard of discourse would improve. I'm pretty certain this wasn't one of his "anti-tweets" and he was being serious. It was very uncharacteristic.
I made the point that, much like Martin Luther King Jr said that it wasn't the colour of your skin but the content of your character that was important, it was the quality of your message/information/question, not what you avatar is. Being polite and respectful will also get you a long way too, and you can easily do that whilst being anonymous.
I stand by that. I have spoken with some of the best scientists in the world over the course of this "pandemic" on various platforms and I have had some amazing interactions. I have been taken deadly seriously by some of the finest minds in the world because of the quality of my content. This despite having no profile picture and being called "baboon"!
Thanks Barry. You probably didn't get the reference. I'm from the UK and this is a common parlance. It's 100% wrong - and thank you, one of my professional skills is proofreading and I really appreciate pedantry a lot, since I am an arbiter of it. However, since I was being somewhat haughty I thought I would use it (this mistake is mostly made by upper-class twits who think they are superior to everyone else and social climbers who emulate said upper-class twits :) ).
I used to work in Oxford. I had the misfortune of working with a social climber and an upper-class twit simultaneously, they just can't help themselves. They think they are speaking the Queen's English yet they make so many grammatical errors. I think it's the inbreeding.
I suppose for me it just became a meme that when engaging in any degree of braggadocio you have to disarm people by forewarning them that you are a bit of a prat. It's probably because I'm a now highly-confused Northerner. I'm probably also a bit of a prat anyway but that's for others to decide... :)
Nice list! I am surprised that you didn't have Vinay Prasad on your list. He is not a conspiracy theorist, he simply looks at the data and explains crisply and clearly how to interpret it and the implications of it. Vinay is a doctor and associate professor at UCSF.
Yes, I like him. He's one of the last honest brokers in mainstream medicine. He tells much more truth than most. But he sometimes pulls his punches (particularly with vaccines) and so I'm wary.
On the other hand, I respect that he never ever says anything that can't be supported by evidence. Unfortunately, some of the people on your list get carried away from time to time and say things that are not supported by the evidence. So there are some on the list that I have to read with a healthy dose of skepticism. I guess we all should be reading everything with a healthy dose of skepticism, even in substack land.
To be clear, I am here reading many of these because there is a ton of good information and clear thinking!
I have noticed that Vinay is coming around, he clearly is reaching his limits…my main criticism has been his over emphasis on double blind randomized controlled trials as the only source of solid evidence…he has neglected patterns of experiential evidence and until the former does not exist, we must pay attention to the latter.
I just subscribed to eugyppios at your recommendation. You were the first person I subscribed to and Alec Berenson was the second. Substack is definitely the future for information it seems...
Almost forgot one of my very favorites -- Jordan Schachtel's The Dossier at https://dossier.substack.com/ . This guy was calling BS on China from the very beginning when he was almost alone. It is occasional but high quality.
I LOVE the Substack era. The conversations are high quality and thought provoking. I started my own just to have a place to put my own Coronavents, although I'm just a mom who's fed up.
Harvard2thebighouse. Guy was on it in Jan 20 calling this what it was, but his Golden Silkworm post, was probably the most informative regarding the quasi species swarm theory and possible origins.
I will cosign the majority of your author recommendations and check out the ones I’m unfamiliar with. I will tell you as someone who works in what many consider the “mainstream press,” the business model isn’t just toast in newspapers, TV is disastrously close to a solvency meltdown. There are some simple steps we can take to expedite that process and I’ll detail what those steps are shortly. I’ll be fired for not getting jabbed on November 12. And when I’m free as a bird, look out…
I was just having this conversation yesterday (and multiple times in the past few weeks). Substack is phenomenal as an interprise and an important piece of the revolution in the information economy.
Substack is good, for as long as it lasts anyway. Ive never tried to monotize, but its nice that it tends to promote itself. Have put up a few things myself. Have a looksee.
Emphasis on “as long as it lasts” - though I’m really enjoying Substack, I’ve been trying to hammer home that people need to own their own platform. IPFS protocol is something that should be on more radars, imo. Regularly export your email list. Have peer to peer payment rails established already (cryptocurrency with shielded transaction capability is a good start, zcash for instance). It is unlikely, in my estimation, that the powers that be will cave on the planned dystopian society just because there’s a resistance.
Toby I am so grateful for you and what you are doing. Thank you for your recommendation. I’ll be adding a few to my reading list. Keep up the good fight!

I’m surprised Sharyl Attkisson and Naomi Wolf aren’t over here yet
OMG Substack reader is going to revolutionize my life.
It helps a lot! I'm surprised that they have not publicized it more.
RSS readers have always been great, but in combination with the rise of substack, it's phenomenal.
Do wish though we could turn-off email notifications and just use the RSS reader.
A couple more I enjoy:

Those are fantastic! Thank you!!! I followed Gummi Bear on Twitter! I just subscribed to all of them. 🙌
Thanks for the Aussie one - I'm Aussie too so good to read like-minded people on the same island!
Oi! I am from SW Sydney, New South Wuhan. You?

Thanks for the Aussie one in particular!
Pleasure!
Gummi! I’m so happy to see people I used to follow on Twitter over here
"Alex Berenson should win a Pulitzer Prize for his investigative reporting." Agreed.

Subbed! What an amazing platform for finding serious voices.

Do what you feel is best, or most appropriate in the circumstances.
Generally, I agree. There is no greater credibility than someone who is literally willing to put his neck on the line.
However, an anon account is ok if it is endorsed by multiple, creditable real names.
People need to remember the reasons behind the "gold standard" of RCT - random controlled trial!
Unfortunately, I don't think the endorsements matter. For the general public, and that's who we have to convince really, someone has to have the name, background, experience, and credibility for them to listen to. Look up Prof Mattias Desmet, Danish psychologist. He has done a few interviews on the mass psychosis that is underway, very worthwhile.

These days I get the shish-kebab over the single subject and the plural pronoun. "One person died. They had underlying healthy problems."
Indeed. All I can say is it's a good thing you are on Substack and not on Twitter.
However if this site does decide to become Woke, my pronouns are "His Majesty" and "His Majesty's". Just letting everyone know in advance.
I saw a clip of Michael Jackson jokingly quizzed Quincy Jones about that during the filming of "We are the world".
I will look that up, thank you.
