There has been different Substack writers talking about paid readers not getting stuff in their email. I noticed this with your column. For instance, I did not get this article in my email. I noticed it while reading elsewhere and just wanted you to know. It makes it look like you backed off in your writing
While I generally agree with the points in this article, and have great appreciation for Toby Rogers, I take issue with this assertion: "the profit interests of the pharmaceutical industry are fundamentally at odds with the health interests of the public."
The problem is not profit interests. In a truly free market, the desire for profit has a POSITIVE effect on the quality, price, and safety of products and services. It is GOVERNMENT MEDDLING IN HEALTH CARE that turns the normally-healthy incentive of profit into a lethal one.
Imagine a totally free health care system. No FDA, CDC, NIH, or the rest of the many state and federal health care bureaucracies. No 1986 Vax Safety or PREP Act. No drug or vaccine mandates, and no drug or vaccine prohibitions. No government censorship! No government-funded research of gain-of-function viruses. No doctors or hospitals taking orders from the agencies captured by pharma to push certain drugs or to avoid others.
The result would be unimpeded COMPETITION. Consumers would be so much better informed than they are today (not to mention than they were before COVID). The marketplace would demand truly safe and effective treatments. Ones like ivermectin, DMSO, and fenben would be well-known and utilized to their maximum ability.
If anyone tried to push a drug that does more harm than good, they would be immediately outed and boycotted by consumers.
So don't dis profits or capitalism or the marketplace. These are good, nay GREAT things. Instead, point the finger directly where it belong: Government meddling in health care.
It is the love of money that drives the pharmaceutical industry and many other businesses. They will do anything for money, including lie and capture government which will then lie for them.
It's not inherent to pharmaceuticals. All businesses, and all people, love money. Many people can be bought - to one degree or another. What keeps their evil in check is competition for customers and the punishment that ensues if they fail to produce what consumers want. All industries attempt to capture government agencies, and they do it to the degree they can get away with it. The American Medical Association being one prime example. They are not a pharmaceutical. But they're just as guilty for harming patients as the pharmaceuticals are. Notice that they managed to get themselves exempt, along with the pharmas, from liability for administering harmful and deadly vaccines. Another prime example is the teachers unions. Their leading spokesperson - Randi Weingarten - was at the center of the propaganda campaign to shut down schools. These unions have lobbied to get a raft of laws in place to protect their sorry asses, including government mandated, one-size-fits-all, everyone-must-pay-for-dearly-in-taxes public schools that mandate vaccines and that greatly discourage a competitive marketplace in education. Again, the problem is not teachers, not doctors, not pharmaceuticals per say. It's government involvement in these industries that causes the problem.
I appreciate all that, thanks. I think the agencies are largely a complete waste of time. However, pharmaceuticals are inherently harmful if one analyses the products.
It is even in the name p-harm-aceuticals! And given the word anagrams to ‘Uh as malpractice’ plus a whole lot more there is not much good in them.
I have worked at the same hospital for 29 years and I have seen first hand how it has changed and gone downhill. I worked through Covid and the treatment patients and their families received was far from caring. Families denied to see their families. Doctors wouldn’t even go into Covid patients’ rooms instead having a nurse go in and have a phone so they could safely speak to the patients. Medication was determined by the incentives offered to facilities such as using deadly remdesivir. No informed consent and no patient freedom of choice was ever evident. This has greatly saddened and angered me that the profession I chose to be able to care and help people was being destroyed before my eyes. This needs to change and the only way I see that happen is by investigating the financial records of all Senate and House members as well as CDC, HHS, and NIH to determine the extent of financial influence placed on them by big pharma to deny needed change and withhold factual information and studies that would be damaging to their new and expensive drugs and “vaccines”. Patients have rights and deserve to be treated with respect and we need people in the CDC, HHS, NIH, CME to be honest and protect the lives of patients. Patients have no rights and are basically forced to take medications that they do not want and denied those they want to try. I will not name specific medications but we all know what they are. Lives could have been saved by the thousands had someone had some integrity and decency but more COVID deaths equals more money for the facilities. I was traumatized by this experience and I hope and pray we can put an end to Big Pharma dictating and hijacking the health of our citizens.
There is a very sincere way to treat Lyme disease and its' coinfections. All with off patent medications. You can get better. Keep the faith. Oh, and stay away from gadolinium.
There is one solution to this problem — but most people won’t even entertain it. The entire medical system should be non-profit or not-for-profit. It would solve so many problems.
“Non—profit” hospital system where I live in the hellhole northeast took millions in bonus money from the state govt during the scamdemic for being good killers of people. Go figure. Criminal any way you slice it. All criminals obsessed with bankrupting and killing the public.
The frame within which one tries to solve the perennial dilemma you describe matters greatly.
One default is economic; markets solve everything.
Another is government; with sufficiently vigilant and vigorous oversight, all will be well.
But the one most often overlooked or brushed aside after ~2,000 years of taking Christian-ish civilization more or less for granted is the human heart. Without the fear of God, folks in lab coats, doctors' scrubs, executive offices, or regulatory posts are equally liable to do wicked things.
Thank you for this excellent article. Health care should never involve making a lot of money. People choosing to make it their career need to be motivated by the desire to really help people not to make a large income.
In the end, we have to take responsibility for our own health. Even if you take any medication (which at 68 I don't, nor have I seen a doctor for 40 years, and not vaxxed for 50 years) the doctor/surgeon will not take responsibility. Even the listed 'side-effects' on an aspirin box is enough to put me off. There's no such thing as a 'side-effect'. There are 'effects' pure and simple. Allopathic medicine belongs to Anthropocentric thinking, and to Newtonian physics.
We are moving to the Symbiocentric world, and quantum-physics has been around for a long time (100+ years) - but is not translated into the health-system (because it's less profitable).
I do however take the occasional homeopathic remedy, since I'm married to a homeopathic doctor. Otherwise it's "Let food be thy medicine" (and exercise, and de-stressing). I may have to eat my words one day, but I'll deal with that if I ever get there.
Thanks, Toby! As to whether I have (complete) confidence in RFJ Jr. to reverse the trajectory of the infamous HHS, frankly, I do not! I will be grateful to be proven wrong, though history (near future) will reveal more. For me, attitudes towards the ongoing genocide in Gaza, West Bank, Syria, and ongoing shameful support, spearheaded & fueled by the West (USA as imperial overlord, now under Trump, w RFKJr sadly in tow) do NOT engender confidence. Palestine and the Palestinian struggle is becoming a litmus test for true humanity, and I see the Trump led USA failing dismally. Covid has always been the smokescreen for more Globalist tyranny, and more is to come unless WE stop them!
Moore's Law doesn't relate to computers. It merely states that the number of transistors on an chip will double every two years. It no longer applies with photolithography hitting a physics limit past extreme ultraviolet.
I am afraid that even if one attempts a noble effort to say no to the system, there is so much built up intertia in the existing health systems and the collectivist hive mindedness of the progressive global blob that is focused on mutating the existing human genome, I dont see how an individual within the normal confines of human civilization is going to escape this rapid slide into becoming a hit target of the depopulators.

And... Medical Aid Schemes are willing partners of Big Pharma.

Pharmaceutical businesses rely on keeping people sick and that is a key issue., there is no profit in healthy people.
Ultimately it is people who are the problem as people make up governments and businesses etc.
That's what I have being saying for more than 20 years.

The only revolution in medicine over the last 35 years is the perfection of the "Medical murder protocols", very affective at killing you

I deal with health care the same way as you, I'm also the same age. No meds either, not even aspirin. No so called "preventive" testing, at all.
Agreed, no 'well-man clinical testing' for me either. "But it's free" they tell me; yeah, and so is jumping off a cliff if you want to.
