Great post, Toby. Something that intrigues me the most about all this is why did this massive, highly sophisticated and targeted propaganda campaign fail to work on some of us? Are our brains wired differently?

Bear with me here, but its worth it….

This story may be apocryphal, but in my marketing class, we were told of a story. Long time ago, Coca Cola did a survey, to see where their advertising dollars went. Turns out, people weren’t seeing Coca-Cola ads. It’s like they weren’t even there… Coca-Cola spent millions of dollars on advertising regularly, so this concerned them immensely. After some investigation, and consultations with psychologists, they had their answer. What had happen was, they had flooded the market with so much advertising, the human brain adapted to shut it out. As it turns out, we’re hardwired to ignore mundane, repetitive things. It’s a survival strategy. Ever have a short commute, that you made all the time, and some days you don’t even remember the drive home?

Long story short, Coca-Cola adapted, blah blah blah, and that’s why companies always change their logos, even though it can cost them millions of dollars to do so.

The point of that is, the online world is an extremely saturated market. Worse than anything we’ve ever seen. There’s just too much data.

They know this, and they manipulate this.

Want proof?

Go online, and type the most homophobic, racist, misogynist crap you can imagine… no one cares. You might get a ban at most, depending on the platform. It if you’re a slick enough wordsmith, you can avoid the AI censors and algorithms and say whatever you want…

Now, take something considered very benign in the online world… something like,

“Islam is right about women.”

Or,

“It’s okay to be white.”

Okay, two stupid statements that don’t even garner a second look, outside some screaming wokeist in reply to your comment…if it’s online.

Now look up those two phrases, but type the word ‘sign’ or ‘flyers’ at the end. You’ll find dozens of news articles, losing their freaking minds, you’ll find FBI investigations. Legit FBI investigating stickers that say “it’s okay to be white.” They’re afraid. They’re more afraid of WHERE the messages are placed, than the messages themselves.

By avoiding the online swamp, you can jump your message to the front of the line. You can bypass the censors. You can make Zuckerberg, Wojicki, all of them USELESS. You can render them POWERLESS, if you go offline and enter the physical realm.

This is the new battlefield. Whats old is new.

You could spend hundreds of hours editing videos of everyone collapsing on every soccer field in the world, and no one’s going to care, except the people who already agree with you. You just don’t have the reach, or impact.

But hang one banner from a freeway overpass that says, “the COVID vaccine killed my kid.”

And watch it have an impact.

Stickers, shirts, flyers, banners…frigging carved messages in bathroom stalls….Think skaterpunk of the 90’s early 2000’s with targeted messaging. Here’s a hint… resistance is ALWAYS cool.

This is how you build a grassroots, organic movement.

Think “Wolverines”. Spray painted on the husk of a burnt out Soviet tank.

“Can you hear us now?”
