So just this weekend I received a hand-addressed letter from HHS. Apparently my letter to Dr Califf was forwarded to this person in CBER, and this person was responding to my letter. Of course, I wrote several emails and at least one print letter to Dr. Califf. I assume it was my print letter that warranted the response.
Basically it is a two page letter expressing appreciation for my interest, assuring me that the drug companies are required to continue collecting data and monitoring for myo/pericarditis, that the F D A and C D C are carefully monitoring for serious adverse events, etc, etc.
Unfortunately I now feel like I am on some watch list for future infractions. Given that the letter merely served all the same talking points and was hand-addressed. Maybe I am just paranoid. I mean, it’s unlikely that CBER is used to having to reply to public comment, right? 🤷♀️🤷♀️🤷♀️🤪🤪🤪
Happy to provide more details if those are somehow helpful. Curious if anyone else got hand-addressed snail mail replies. I don’t even get those from my Senator or Congressmen. Lol.
Well, look at that: FDA just expanded the Pfizer EUA for "boosters" to five-year-olds. I wondered why ACIP would meet May 19th, and now I see it's to make a "should" recommendation just in time for summer camp. They couldn't let VRBPAC discuss it, because Offit and others would have vocally opposed it.
Here is a nice talking point for anyone writing to Offit. He has been saying for quite some time (citing work by Shane Crotty and John Wherry) that the currently available shots "prevent severe disease and death."
Every day, that's less true, and with data from February (which must be even worse for the shots now), we can see that:
- 25 percent of "COVID" deaths in the US are of people who had 3 or more injections
and simple math (110 million Americans with 3 or more injections in February divided by 341 million total Americans) tells us that:
- 30 percent of people in the US have had 3 or more injections.
So that's pretty close to worthless against death--which is not only the last enemy (heh) but also the last outcome anyone is pretending these shots prevent, especially when you consider that:
- people who haven't cleared the two-week window since the third injection are not counted in the "boosted" group,
- this data is from February, and the virus only gets further and further away from Wuhan,
- the share of deaths among 3+ jabbers went from 1.1 percent in Sept. 2021 to 25 percent in February 2022, which meets my definition of "skyrocketing," and
- this analysis doesn't include any deaths from the injections themselves, which any sane person admits is a figure greater than zero, when you're talking about the population of a nation. Tylenol would kill more than zero people if we gave it to 30 percent of the country three times.
Again, I don't think Offit has a "moral core" the way I think about it, but he does recognize efficiency and would prefer products that work at least a little bit over ones that are the conceptions of con men, so the thing to highlight when you write to him is that mixing up new strains in an effort to guess what's next is futile. The current mRNA approach isn't working. Full stop. Time to stop betting on it. No new variants or injections should be approved unless they can demonstrate actual VE (real reduction in disease) over a period of longer than 12 months (not median, but actually 12 months for everyone in the study). Anybody who doesn't feel like attempting that particular bar should choose not participate in this high jump.
(And I'm not saying I'd take a product with a 12-month VE, but it's the kind of metric--or substitute your own number that incorporates the idea that if you have to get injected every six months forever in order not to die, it's a crap product--that Offit can understand.)
I just saw a story that said that the "white house covid 19 coordinator", a Dr. Jha, has said we are all in deep danger unless Congress passes more spending bills for wasting money on more shots and tests. In other words, they want to keep the gravy train flowing and we can only do this with more stories of fear. "We're all doomed unless we hand a few more billion away to the shot and test makers to keep their stock prices up." True transparency in govt. I see right through them.
