WOW… excellent information… I am not inclined to respond much but this inspired me to share, sooo…. Here goes: Vitamin D is very important for maintaining my health.
Quick synopsis…
I was born in northern Canada and had rickets (legs started bowing) at approx 1.5 yrs old… my mother noticed ( bless her her motherly intuition) and got medical advice. She was advised by a wise country doctor to triple my vitamin drops ( lots of Vitamin D in the drops) and very quickly my legs straightened. She said it was like watching a miracle take place!!
As a kid, I literally lived outdoors and grew strong and healthy in spite of cold, long winters.
I have been a HCP my entire adult life and have frequently noticed how our allopathic doctors tend to minimize/ demonize what they do not understand… this includes knowledge about vitamins/ minerals etc in human health. It is my understanding that they get less than 6 weeks of training on the subject compared to literal years of pharma training… hmm.. interesting concept.
Now, back to my main storyline: When I was in my middle 40’s , I began seeing alternative health providers as I had lots of symptoms including progressive fatigue that allopathic doctors could not understand.
Over the years with my new healthcare non-allopathic team , I underwent many nutritional changes, vitamin supplements and omega-3’s etc which all benefitted my wellness. I learned to approach my health from a perspective of wellness and not sickness.
Technically, I was told by my non-allopathic doctor that my vitamin D levels should be excellent but my tiredness persisted sooo I was tested for Vitamin D and my levels were well below normal levels. (Thankfully my new doctor actually listened to my suggestion about checking my vitamin D levels). It took approx 1-2 yrs. to find the right supplement levels to maintain my healthy level. I am grateful to say I have had many years of wellness and that sense of extreme tiredness is not part of my life!!
I am now in my 60’s and I know I would not be this well without supplementing VIT D!!!
For whatever reason(s), I require supplementing vitamin D to maintain my health and I suspect living in a northern climate with looong winters is a major factor …
My advice: Find a good natural health doctor ( years of training about vitamins/ minerals completed) to work with you. You need help to figure out what you need to do to support your health! I know what I have to dose with vitamin D during the different seasons and also have occasional bloodwork to check my levels. For whatever reason (s), I have to take a healthy dose of vitamin D just to stay in a reasonable range and so far science cannot provide me with all the answers as to the “why”however knowing that vitamin D deficiency cannot exist in my body with my supplementation regime is all that matters to stay well and healthy.
Taking anything without understanding what you are doing is not smart… find someone who can guide you toward ongoing wellness just one small step at a time and don’t be afraid to ask lots and lots of questions. Good naturopathic doctors are worth their weight in gold!!
