The US and world banks supported Hitler and his rise. US corporation and international as well supported Hitler. If there was money to be made, it was made at the expense of everything. Ford, IBM, pharmaceutical companies, etc. The US turned away boatloads of refugees who saw what was going on in Germany at US ports. Ask Billy Joel. After his family was turned away and returned to Germany, most perished. Thanks for this post. Fascinating.
Susan Sontag once wrote a long essay called Fascinating Faacism. It documents and tries to place in context what she refers to as the fascist aesthetic. Leni Riefenstahl made propaganda films for the Nazis before the war. Triumph of the Will and Olympia, then she was sanitized. But her later photographic National
geographic adjacent work reveals an obsession with the body beautiful, big muscles and essentializing simplistic interpretations of her subject matter. Aesthetic Fascism is all around us. Even standard narrative films are faacist in how their editting construction leads us with a firm hand down a garden path, inserting our gaze into the narrative as if we were a character. Bombastic imagery is sexy, and perhaps above all masculine: rigid, decisive, free of doubt or uncertainty. We love that certainty, especially in times of doubt and anxiety. Something outside of us affirms a world in order, even if our lives and minds are not. All is predictable. All is reliable. Good or bad…..all is secure because someone out there is ensuring the ego of society remains unshattered. It’s a desire as old as society itself. The ordered society is the safe society. We are safe from enemies by the state. The state must remain strong at all costs. The roiling undercurrent of aesthetic fascism in youth culture and pop culture is the externalization of that desire. Duality must be upheld. Duality requires an opposition. The enemy within is the verification that there is an enemy without.
So interesting and a wild epiphany! Until reading this, I have eye-rolled past “fascism” rhetoric but your article puts it into an inarguable, eye-opening construct that is both fascinating and gut-wrenching.
I think we have an implicit tribal hardwiring which responds to groups, rhythm, and chanting/vibrational harmony – even if (or possibly especially if) it is organized chaos. Additionally, throughout our culture, the bully has garnered worship from the weak (lest they fall victim but also gathering adjacent power) and the rebel is revered even by the strong and dutiful. We both fear and admire power. Rebel without a Cause, Fight Club, even the “cool” Fonzie, a somewhat neutered rebel from Happy Days.
Organized dance routines with powerful music trigger our primal desire to belong to a group, to resonate as vibrational beings. Look at Michael Jackson’s Thriller video which captured our generation, flash mobs, and even High School Musical. It registers the same. The difference now is the cumulative post-encephalitic syndrome ever increasing in the population coupled with the degradation of society in all facets.
The gestures of the group in Part II are ones of suffering, exhaustion, overwhelm, even utter despair. And unfortunately, that resonates deeply with so many. Kids born in the late 90s/early 2000s are the first generation to have a global tribe online. As a result, the boredom with all things rebellious hit early with the exhaustive, limitless access to porn and violence. What gives the adrenalin “shock and awe” takes a heck of a lot more these days because these kids have seen it all. They are desperate for the dopamine hit.
Because they aren’t hungry for the dark energy – they’re living in it. The scene where he takes apart the wifi tower component, scrapes out the metal (which looks like mercury when melted) to create a drug is quite the metaphor. The reason it lands with the American, and global, audience (even if subconsciously) is because, as you describe, we don’t just feel powerless, we know we are. We’re hungry for the energy of freedom and retribution to those who have robbed us of our birthright – life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.
But this generation doesn’t want fascism, they want anarchy. The irony is that they are hardwired to follow a leader, thus there can be no utopia. Evidence: the anti-fascists are actually fascists.
Your post reminded me of Harris Coulter’s book, “Vaccination, Social Violence, and Criminality.” Thank you for relentlessly and bravely bringing attention to this issue which really is the only chance at our salvation. Because sadly, we’re just a few who are even conscious of its implications and without stopping it, there is no real hope for a better future.
Grab your mates and smoke some 6G filings! You can either smoke EMR or be smoked by it I suppose. The cell antenna is clearly like the toxic fruit of a brainrot jungle, and instead of passively basking in its corrosive energy, the boys tear the metaphoric fruit pod down, husk it, and harvest its kernel to willingly mess themselves up – like a cybernetic hemlock à la Socrates.
However silly, that scene is a powerful symbol of owning a double bind at the expense of one’s destruction, or growing up in a lose-lose antihuman world that either tranquilizes masculinity slowly through its field energy, or all at once with a quick hit by your own volition. And fitting that this ritual of forfeiting oneself precedes the fascistic choreography of mass formation.
excellent article here Mr. Rogers! I'll just focus on the iatrogenic part and how they're extracting the health & wealth of the unsuspecting. Then Dr. Russel Blaylock’s work on excitoxins harmful effect on the brain & also Harris Coulter's 1990 book ‘Vaccination & Criminality’ & the violence connection. All documented. I'm very grateful to have found this article. It resonates entirely with what I see in the media all the time, although my everyday dealings with the people around me don't seem to have changed much.
Maybe that's just resignation, since of course outright fascism can be extremely intimidating...
So much to think about! Yikes! My first impression is the Epstien files and the rampant sexual and satanic ritual abuse at the private schools for generations. I thought lead was representing authority in general, faculty, admin. Abuse of power. Fear mongering. I sob when I watch it. It strikes very deep.
I disagree with your assertion that MAGA followers worship Trump in the same manner as we worship Jesus.
I am MAGA, and I can assure you that I see many of Trumps flaws, and that despite those flaws, I trust him more than any other president we have had in the past 50 years. I always maintain a healthy and hefty dose of skepticism for every new "saviour" or the greatest new "thing".
You've been manipulated for years. It's not just Trump and not just COVID bioweapon and "vaccines" (which I saw through from the very beginning because I've been raising goats for 30+ years and if you are a goat person you should have as well).
Me too. I got the horses during Bush Jr. to keep sane. A long heart-to-heart hug with a horse vaporized so much racist, violent crap. And my sheep are slowly, slowly providing the wool with which to insulate my farmhouse walls. The best insulation in the world. In summer, the wool absorbs the humidity inside, cooling things down; in winter it moves the humidity outside to the interior, warming things up. Fire-retardant, insect-proof and cheap as hell to produce (free mowing and fertilizer). In medieval times window shutters were lined with the stuff, keeping the warmth in despite limited fires. This is the way of the future. I.e., the past.
Your South Dakota Legislature led by Larry Rhoden, Lee Schoenbeck, and Jon Hansen lobbied for, and convinced your representatives to vote 94-7 to do the following:
1, NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, by the House of Representatives of the Ninety-Ninth Legislature of the State of South Dakota, the Senate concurring therein, that the Legislature reaffirms its support and unwavering commitment to the welfare, security, and survival of the State of Israel;
2, BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Legislature recognizes Israel's right to act decisively and unilaterally in self-defense to protect the right to life of its citizens;
3, BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Legislature express utmost admiration for the members of the Israeli Defense Force who answered the call to duty to protect their homes, families, friends, and country;
4, BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Legislature calls upon South Dakota law enforcement to remain vigilant in protecting South Dakota Jewish citizens, and all supporters of the State of Israel from acts of crime and unlawful discrimination that tend to manifest at certain times;
5, BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Legislature encourages all states in the United States to likewise condemn any official government body that refuses to recognize Israel's right to act decisively in self-defense to protect its citizens.
Who do you support to represent you as your next S.D Governor?
Larry Rhoden, Jon Hansen both lobbied for, and convinced your "Legislature" to support a Foreign Country, supporting them to go to war with any country, any governing body, any person to whom threatens, attacks, let alone refuses to support the "State of Israel"
Folks, the "State of Israel" is now officially @ War with America cause 'we' signed a peace agreement with Iran. And this means, the "State of Israel" now will go to war against America in support of their "Jewish Citizens" residing here in America, and your South Dakota Legislature led by Larry Rhoden and Jon Hansen sold us down the river. For all you legislators to who had a "YES" vote as well. Which side of the fence do you defend? Americans' vs Foreign People?
Both Mike Rounds $928,000 and Dusty Johnson $323,000 have taken from AIPAC, and John Thune has also taken $461,000 from AIPAC to support Military operations against anyone that does not support the "State of Israel"
"Across more than 35 US states, anti-BDS laws and executive orders have been passed requiring some companies, contractors, and individuals to confirm they are not boycotting Israel if they want government contracts or certain public benefits."
Why, why are your Elected Officials, Officers, Legislators 'swearing' allegiance to a foreign government to defend them over Americans?
"It is about why lawmakers are willing to protect a foreign government from peaceful economic protest while ordinary Americans are rarely protected with the same urgency."
How did loyalty to Israel become written into SOUTH DAKOTA law?
Free speech means very little if the government can punish people for using it.
Folks, Toby Doeden is the only candidate for "Governor" to not take money from AIPAC, and that says a lot in becoming your "Commander in Chief" for you South Dakota National Guard!
Now, does Executive Order 13818 make more sense? We are at war with an Evil Syndicate, we are arresting all public officials, officers, agents, employees of Federal and State Governments to have committed "Crimes Against Humanity" against Children, the American People, thus seizing their assets, money, property, putting that revenue back into the "American Sovereign Wealth Fund"
As for Data Centers, these are being promoted as part of the Military Defense System,
Interesting Thought, are Data Center's really "Military Buildings" under the guise of National Defense, Security, and Securing Our Public Monetary System.
Remember, Donald Trump has supported Data Centers in order to prepare the National Guard Readiness Centers. Also note, the new monetary system is close to being created, while we abolish the Federal Reserve, the I.R.S and abolish all national debt, credit debts, and rebuild our "energy grid"
These "data centers" will mostly be placed on "Federal Public Lands" and by this means, your local government cannot stop them. Hence Gemni Company chose the land they did.
Chris is 100% wrong, "WE" do not worship Donald Trump as a God, that is just braindead trash talk coming from a "NEOCON" called Chris Larson. He is still upset that no one supported his Neocon-Socialist, Backed Jon Hansen team
I've been reading about the Mitford family (in the U.K. during WWI and II) because I did not realize how many Brits defended fascism and the Nazis or why? Apparently the British society, which at one time could be called "liberal" or "progressive" (though also colonialist!) felt it had to choose between the communists/Bolsheviks on the one hand and the fascists and Nazis on the other. These are actually two economic systems. And it happened as inherited wealth, as with the Mitfords, was disappearing. It is pretty shocking how many of them supported Hitler. Jessica was the only one supporting communism. Two of the sisters married nobility (though one divorced her husband and married the head of the fascist party in Britain!). It's a three-way war, as I see it.
As for Iran, Westerners are SOOO racist it's appalling. Racism is a great self-defense weapon. If your opponent is racist towards you, encourage them. They cannot see you and you can prepare your defenses even out in the open. And you WILL win. This is the lesson of the current zeitgeist. And one that MAGA in particular need to heed. The Israeli intelligence industry is especially infiltrating the right-wing evangelical churches who believe in the Second Coming. They are licking their chops because you are going to fight their wars for them, and die for them. Wake up. They are supremely racist and will lose. Please open your eyes, minds, and hearts before it is too late.
Toby, this is important analysis and you've wandered into territory I've been working in for some time. So permit me to add a few threads.
The "Lord of the Flies" framing is doing a lot of ideological work in the feminist cultural commentary you're implicitly pushing back against. The novel is routinely deployed as allegory for the innate violent nature of boys. Certain women have jumped on it to push the agenda of "toxic masculinity." Roxane Gay put it plainly, "An all-women remake of Lord of the Flies makes no sense because the plot of that book wouldn't happen with all women." Rachel Syme agreed, it's a story "about systemic male violence and how it replicates." You can hear the glee.
The empirical record says otherwise on both counts. First, the real-life version of "Lord of the Flies" already exists. In 1965, six Tongan boys, aged 13 to 16, ran away from their boarding school, stole a boat, got wrecked in a storm, and spent fifteen months stranded on the uninhabited island of 'Ata. They built a permanent, continuously-burning fire. They stored rainwater in hollowed-out tree stumps. They fashioned a makeshift guitar. They caught feral chickens and tended a garden. They sang to each other, prayed with one another, every day for 15 months. When one boy broke his leg, the others set it with sticks and leaves. They imposed time-outs during arguments. All of them survived the ordeal. And what happened on the island couldn't have been more different from what Golding dreamed up. Dutch historian Rutger Bregman brought this story to wider attention in "Humankind: A Hopeful History," and could not understand why it hadn't become one of the most famous stories of the 20th century. The answer, of course, is that it doesn't fit the feminist narrative.
Second, the claim that an all-female version would be more cooperative doesn't hold up either. Girls' use of indirect (rather than overt) aggression: spreading false rumors, gossiping, excluding others from a social group, exceeds boys' from age 11 onward, and this difference persists into adulthood across various areas of life. Researchers Nicki Crick and Jennifer Grotpeter found that relational aggression was more common among females and posed a significant developmental risk. A 1995 study indicated it may be more psychologically damaging to girls, for complex reasons involving gender differences in how boys and girls define themselves in relation to their social networks. An all-female "Lord of the Flies" wouldn't be free of savagery. It would simply be a different register of it. And one considerably more likely than any masculine version.
All of which brings me to your central question: why does "Storm" land now, and what does it mean that it does?
I've been writing about masculinity since publishing "Modern Masculinity for the Conscious Man" in 2021, and my reading of this video is less alarmed than yours (yhough I share your wariness about what happens to raw energy when it goes unguided). What I see in "Storm" is not fascism finding its audience. It is masculinity finding its exhaust valve. The term "toxic masculinity," which I describe in my book as "a feminist-invented control mechanism to reduce men to passivity and powerlessness," has done significant cultural damage over the past decade. It has not eliminated masculine energy. It has simply driven it underground, where it accumulates pressure. What Gavras has captured is that pressure finding aesthetic form. The audience isn't hungry for fascism. They are hungry for a representation of masculine force that has not been pre-apologized into incoherence.
Your point about the ruling class hijacking populist rage is exactly right, and it's where the danger actually lives. I've written extensively about this mechanism. The ruling class doesn't need to manufacture dysfunction from scratch. It simply recognizes emergent social fractures, funds them, and harnesses them. A movement that defines masculinity itself as the pathology is extraordinarily useful to a power structure that profits from social fragmentation. "Storm" is the blowback. The question is whether that blowback finds wise guidance or gets captured by something uglier.
That's the crux of it. The energy in that video is not the problem. Social forces aligned against men and male expression is the problem. The absence of male elders who have younger men's best interests at heart (rather than their own power) is the problem. As I note in my book, rites of passage were instigated almost exclusively by the male members of the tribe. They represented the end of the childhood phase and the start of the adult phase. We have systematically dismantled those structures and then expressed bewilderment at what fills the vacuum.
"Storm" is reaching for a robust rejection of feminist reprogramming. That rejection is warranted. What it needs now is not a stronger ideology but wiser stewardship. Older men who have done the interior work, who can meet that energy where it is and give it direction for young men who are starving for guidance and purpose.
In changing the conversation from the male aspect of fascism to a criticism of feminism, you do exactly what you claim the ruling class is doing. The Tongan boys came from a very different culture than the cute little British boys in "public" (AKA private and privileged) school uniforms did. The British boys were educated in a pretty scary system full of rage expressed in physical harm, if you know anything about the upper crust's gender-segregated private (American term) school system. Rape, physical torture, the abuse of little boys by bigger boys and grown men is pretty common in most of those schools. The experiences of Prince Philip and King Charles were not uncommon. It is not surprising that Prince Andrew was involved in sexual abuse of people--women--with less power than them. Women do gossip and gang up on "outsiders", but they don't kill each other. That's pretty rare. You are advocating a formalization of your own pathetic sexism. Male entitlement has created many of the problems we currently face. I did not find this film "art" or "compelling" or anything much. I expected more violence and more explicit violence so it wasn't particularly shocking to me. The "music" bored me, the lyrics were silly. Facile, actually. Meaningless.
After watching 1 & 2 a few times it reminded me of something. The scene where the victim actually hits back. Everyone is expecting the bully to really beat him up but instead he now accepts him. Bullies don't like people who fight back. They love those that cower and beg for mercy.
Decades ago I had a similar situation in high school. Once the bully sees that you can take a shot and keep fighting they find easier targets. I actually ended up not friends but not hostile with the bully. At parties and other stuff he would pick on others not me.

What would be interesting to know are the personal history and professional contacts of Gavras. Is his art organic or orchestrated?

A. … civil war is imminent.
This resonates.
