Toby - have you read any of Thomas Sowell’s books? Check out A Conflict Of Visions; The Vision of the Anointed; Dismantling America etc. I find it so interesting that so many great minds start out on the left, even Marxist, but quickly discover the faults once you add real human behavior to the equation.

Nice work. You're shining a light in the right place. I'll be pondering this more. I would say that Christianity is ultimately the solution, but for its adherents, alas. Again, further proof Christianity is real. It's ultimately honest and accurate about the human condition. And offers redemption and potential of virtue on an individual level (a feature that scales beautifully for a society if it were to happen collectively). These facts explain the founders' assertion that our system is only suitable for a Christian nation (a people with an awareness and understanding of the Christian concept of the personal reality of good and evil, and individual necessity of conversion). Utopian socialist/leftist dreams have no hope because of their blindfolded, fundamental willful ignorance of human nature. Barring some new Christian 'great awakening' the idealism of a virtuous carrot cannot overcome the reality of the need for a stick to counter vice. Liberalism left to itself leads to the chaos of today with "reality" just another relativistic concept placed on the altar of the self to be revered or denied indiscriminately, and neither modernism nor postmodernism can argue in favor of an objective Truth or a Reality. Kyrie eleison.

“Modernism, which denies and abolishes every difference, cannot rest until it has made woman man and man woman, and, putting every distinction on a common level, kills life by placing it under the ban of uniformity.”

Abraham Kuyper, 1898
