I owe Andy Wakefield an apology. When his excellent paper was retracted 12 years after it was published (following a very expensive hit piece organized by Rupert Murdoch who has millions of dollars invested in Pharma stocks) I thought to myself, 'c'mon man, they would not have done this without good reason.' And I was just wrong and naïve because that's not how things work AT ALL. Scientific/medical journals are feudal estates. They can do whatever they want and get away with it. When they decide to burn an author at the stake, they just start making stuff up and they absolutely do not care when they are caught in a lie. If anything, getting caught in the lie and then proceeding anyway makes them feel more powerful (A Dick Cheney Power Move). There is no such thing as scientific debate anymore (it has been banned by order of Big Pharma). Science is now just a series of overlapping cartels seeking to maximize their own profits. Scientific debate is something relegated to the history books.

This is a small setback in the wider war. The goal is to overthrow the entire corrupt regime. And this helps us because the other side has so clearly revealed that they are unredeemable. So we mourn for a bit and then we move on and build the new.
